title-2Project: Landmark at Oceanview Senior Living Community
Project Role: Lead Architect
The historic Briscoe School in Beverly, Massachusetts had been converted previously to a senior community living center. Due to increased demand, Kurtz Design Studio, LLC was commissioned to expand the facility into the final available unfinished space. The plan called for additional rooms in the garden level space situated near the front of the building. The existing space perimeter provided superior natural light, but this element was severely limited in the interior space. Circulation was challenging due to a three foot height change between the expansion and the main entrance. The final design called for six new units, containing a total of 8 bedrooms, to be located around the perimeter. The living room space and the kitchen were situated in the body of the unit. Each unit was outfitted with essential safety elements for eldercare living, including call buttons, out swing doors, and motion sensor lighting. The thoughtful layout for the residents allowed for a main community space to serve as a destination and social area.
